Escanela River – Puente de Dios
Protected by ancient alamo trees, the crystal clear current of Escanela River descends from the heights of the Sierra. Playing with the limestone rock, it has formed two unique features: Puente de Dios (Bridge of God) and Cañón de la Angostura (Canyon of the Narrows).
Trinidad
Trinidad is a small Nahuatl community in the municipality of Xilitla. It houses some of the wildest and most spectacular zones of the Sierra Gorda. Visiting the place is almost like travelling back in time.
Adjuntas
Here, the Ayutla River, with its cold and clear water, and Santa Maria River, with its warm and earth-colored waters originating in Guanajuato, collide. It is a perfect place to visit with your family.
The Jalpan Dam
The Jalpan Dam collects waters of the Escanela River that originate in the mountains of Pinal de Amoles. Its margins are covered partly by tropical deciduous forests and partly by areas dedicated to the cultivation of citrus trees.
Sótano del Barro
Sótano del Barro is an enormous pit cave or sinkhole encircled by oak forests that serve as a refuge for the last remaining colony of military macaws in Central Mexico.
San Juan de los Durán
Nestled in the pine-oak forests and mountains of the eastern part of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve is the community of San Juan de los Durán. It is an excellent takeoff point for visiting the famous Cave of Swallows.
Cave of Swallows
This enormous cave is surrounded by dense vegetation of the Huasteca Potosina region. 512 meters deep and 60 meters wide, with a freefall of 370 meters, the Cave of Swallows is the second largest pit cave in Mexico and amongst the largest in the world.
Chuvejé Waterfall
Chuvejé Waterfall is one of the favorite destinations for those who visit the Sierra Gorda. Almost 30 meters tall, it is one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the State of Querétaro.
