Located only 1 kilometer away from the center of Jalpan de Serra, these cozy but simple eco-cabins are “straw-bale” constructions, built from locally-sourced materials that provide excellent insulation against the elements and minimize the environmental footprint of their construction and use. The cabins are surrounded by beautiful gardens and are only a five-minute walk away from recreational opportunities at the Jalpan presa (reservoir) and picnic grounds.
Centro Tierra has 8 cabins total, including:
· 2 group cabins, each with 10 individual beds
· 1 cabin for 8 people, with 4 bunk beds
· 3 cabins for 2-3 people
· 1 cabin for 5 people
· 1 cabin for 7 people
There is an area for bonfires (with firewood available to purchase), a self-serve coffee station, and a kitchenette that can be rented for personal use.
The gardens surrounding the cabins burst with the colors and aromas of ornamental plants and fruit trees. They are ideal for bird watching on spring mornings.
Thanks to the cabins’ location on the grounds of the Sierra Gorda Alliance, they offer a conference room with space for 60 people and a projector that can be used for educational or corporate events. There is also an open-air, covered kitchen and dining space, available for catered meals if the request is made in advance and for at least 20 people.
It is the perfect environment for team-building exercises or retreats for businesses that would like to hold their corporate events in a natural setting.
The Sierra Gorda Alliance also offers discussions on environmental stewardship, as well as conferences and activities related to conservation programs being implemented in the area.
The cabins are located only five minutes away from Jalpan’s presa (reservoir), which has received designation as a Ramsar site for its importance to migratory birds, and the adjacent “Mundo Acuático" waterpark, where recreational opportunities include scenic walks, bird watching, boat rentals, kayaking and rappelling.
Take Federal Highway 120 (San Juan del Río – Xilitla) to Jalpan de Serra. At kilometer 181, take the road toward the Jalpan presa for approximately 500 meters.
