Get to know the work of Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda through an introduction to the traditional restaurants on the Ruta del Sabor (Tasting Route), the network of eco-lodges, collaborations with organic vegetable and fruit producers, and work promoting the regeneration of soils. Delve into the concepts of ecosystem services and carbon footprints, and think about the ecological effects of our lifestyle while learning about strategies to lessen your impact. You will do all this while getting to know the many ecosystems of the reserve and getting experience in the field.

You will meet up with your Sierra Gorda Ecotours guide at Maguey Verde, in Peñamiller. From there, we will drive to the community of Cuatro Palos, where you'll be able to observe the transition from asemi-desert to forest ecosystem and get an introduction to the functions, flora, and fauna of each. We'll take you on a walk through an oak forest on the way to a lookout, where you will have a stunning panoramic view of the Sierra Madre Oriental and the Peña de Bernal.
After you enjoy a packed lunch at Cuatro Palos, it's off to El Chuvejé waterfall, one of the most beautiful and impressive in the state of Querétaro, with a drop of 30 meters. The path to reach it is an easy 30-minute walk and which leads you through a gallery forest of stately sycamores. At the waterfall, you will have time to enjoy the beauty of your surroundings while listening to an explanation on the function of watersheds.
From El Chuvejé, we will depart for the Centro Tierra grounds in Jalpan de Serra, where we will have a presentation on the work that Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda has done over the past 30 years to maintain the biological riches of the Biosphere Reserve.
To end the day, you will have a well-deserved dinner and night's rest in the Centro Tierra cabins.
After breakfast, we will begin the day with a presentation on the services provided by the biodiversity in the Sierra Gorda, followed by a session on Protected Natural Areas led by the environmental education team.
Next, we will depart for the community of Concá, where you will meet the women of Alimentos Pura Vida and see the workshop where they create delicious treats such as jams, jellies, and sauces.
From Concá, we will continue on to Ayutla to have lunch at Los Sauces Campamento. After lunch, you will have time to take a walk or swim in the Ayutla River.
To finish the day, we will go to the educational farm, Tonatico, approximately an hour and a half away. Once there, you will set up camp for the night, and we will share dinner and bonfire.
Before breakfast, you will have the opportunity to milk goats and observe others as they milk cows. You'll learn about organic milk production and how keeping livestock and using organic fertilizers can regenerate soils
You will also have the chance to get your hands dirty in a bio-intensive fruit and vegetable garden, see a horse training session, and take a walk through a forest to measure carbon capture.
You will eat a meal made of organic food from the garden, before departing for Pinal de Amoles to bring an end to the activities.
