Fertile soils and abundant rains result in plentiful and high-quality fresh produce in the Sierra Gorda. The women that form part of this micro-enterprise have found a way to keep seasonal fruits tasty all year round, preparing a variety of sauces, jams, and snacks.

The micro-enterprise was established in 2002, when a small dehydrator was purchased with the Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda’s help, to give local women the means of generating their own income and extending life of various fruits in their region.

The women then received training in jam- and preserve-making. Gradually they built up their reputation as producers of delicious and high-quality local products and today count with three solar dehydrators.

Today, they offer freshly baked handmade bread and are testing the production of dehydrated foods that will serve to make fast food of the same quality and with the same nutritional value as the slow-cooked dishes.
