How can I get to the Sierra Gorda?


Jalpan de Serra, the geographic center of the Sierra Gorda, is just three and a half hours from Santiago de Querétaro or six hours from Mexico City, and is easily accessible by a car or by a bus.

From Querétaro

Take the highway towards Bernal and, once you arrive to the Peña Blanca, merge onto the Federal Highway 120 (San Juan del Río – Xilitla). Following this Highway, you will pass through Pinal de Amoles before arriving in Jalpan de Serra.

You can also travel by bus. The bus company Primera Plus departs daily from Querétaro to Jalpan de Serra at 8:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 3:00 PM. It also departs daily from Jalpan de Serra to Querétaro at 5:00 AM, 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

Furthermore, two companies provide transportation services from Querétaro to Jalpan de Serra and from Jalpan de Serra to Querétaro at a very affordable price:

Sanchez Tourism. Telephone: +52 1 441 101 0038. Cost (one-way): MXN$200. Schedule: Jalpan de Serra – Querétaro at 5:00 AM and Querétaro – Jalpan de Serra at 3:00 PM.

ARCA Transports. Telephone: +52 441 296 1487. Cost (one-way) MXN$220. Schedule: Jalpan de Serra – Querétaro at 5:30 AM and Querétaro – Jalpan de Serra at 4:00 PM.

From Mexico City

Take the Mexico – Querétaro Freeway until you reach San Juan del Río. There, exit onto the Federal Highway 120 towards Tequisquiapan and continue until you reach Jalpan de Serra. Along the way you will pass through Ezequiel Montes, Cadereyta, Vizarrón, Peña Blanca, Pinal de Amoles, and several other small communities.

You can also travel by bus. Bus companies Primera Plus and Autobuses Coordinados leave daily from the Mexico City’s Central de Autobuses del Norte bus station.
